Come join the SFV-CAMFT Chapter for a fantastic night of celebration and fun! We’re excited to honor our chapter and volunteers for 2025 and 2026, and we want YOU to be part of the excitement! Get ready to bowl the night away at Corbin Bowl, bring a guest or come solo and connect with your colleagues while knocking down some pins. The evening will include hors d' oeuvres, dinner, and adult beverages as well as cosmic bowling and music.

COURSE DESRIPTION

What do we do when our clients cannot tolerate happiness? When negativity bias dominates the narrative, it becomes imperative to increase a client's ability to tolerate neutrality, or better yet pleasantness. Positive Affect Tolerance (PAT) is the concept of tolerating enjoyable feelings and sensations. Regardless of the client's presenting problem, progress is contingent on the presence of Positive Affect Tolerance. Without it, clients may experience stuckness, hopelessness, or frustration about the therapeutic process. This workshop will further define the concept and explain ways to assess for PAT. Participants will be trained in various interventions for introducing and increasing Positive Affect Tolerance with clients.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Participants will be able to define Positive Affect Tolerance and list a minimum of three reasons clients struggle to experience it.

2. Participants will be able to list three symptoms that indicate an absence of Positive Affect Tolerance in clients.

3. Participants will be able to identify a minimum of two interventions used to increase Positive Affect Tolerance with clients.

PRESENTERS

Rebecca Doppelt, LMFT 111104, is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant private practitioner specializing in attachment trauma. She is relational, strength-based and uses humor to help clients unlock their resilience. Rebecca's niches are discernment and betrayal trauma. Rebecca offers clinical supervision and Attachment-Focused EMDR Consultation. She offers sessions virtually or in-person in Studio City & Pasadena. Rebecca lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two rambunctious children and one stinky old dog.

Melanie Bomar, LMFT 121603, LPCC 9773 Melanie earned her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and has over 5 years of experience at Journeys working with clients of all ages and various issues. Melanie is trained in EMDR and works in other modalities too, such as Client-Centered, Psychodynamic, and Gestalt. She has experience with clients struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, family conflict, phobias, marital issues, health issues, phase of life problems, substance use and childhood trauma. Melanie also has over 16 years of experience working with teens in a youth ministry setting. Previously, she gained experience in the Television and Music industries. In her free time, she enjoys wilderness backpacking and playing drums.

Course evaluations will be sent and CE completion certificates will be awarded to participants that attend the entire presentation and complete the course evaluation within 48 hours of the speaker presentation.

Refund Policy: Requests for refunds must be in writing and received by SFV-CAMFT before one week prior to the event. A $2 administrative fee will be deducted for cancellation of a paid event, through the cancellation deadline. There will be no changes or cancellations received after one week prior to the event (this includes no shows and arriving late to the presentation on the day of the event). This law and ethics-focused training is designed for mental health professionals who are paneled with insurance companies, considering becoming in-network, or seeing clients who wish to use out-of-network benefits. While insurance provides increased access to care, it also introduces complex legal and ethical obligations. During the training, Ms. Jasper will discuss how to fully inform patients about insurance issues at the outset of treatment, bill accurately and respond to records requests and audits in a manner that complies with state and federal confidentiality laws.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify essential insurance-related disclosures that must be included in the informed consent process at the outset of treatment.
Implement informed consent procedures that fully notify patients about insurance issues and financial responsibilities at the start of treatment.
Execute accurate billing practices to ensure compliance with insurance company requirements and professional standards.
Identify common reasons for insurance record requests and audits.
Respond to records requests and insurance audits effectively while maintaining adherence to state and federal confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA.
Develop a legally sound, step-by-step protocol for responding to insurance audit requests.
