Member Profile by Shelley Horner, LMFT

Dianne Gorsey, LMFT

Meeting with Dianne Stern Gorsey, LMFT, was such a pleasure! Dianne is a kind, intelligent, and modest psychotherapist who has served the community for many years. She has a private practice in Sherman Oaks and is actively seeking adult clients with various issues for individual or couples work. She is a therapist who brings her knowledge and life experience to help adults with transitions such as retirement, illness, and empty nest syndrome. Dianne also specializes in parenting in her private practice.

Dianne received her Bachelor's degree from UCLA, where she also met her husband. She began a fruitful journey of helping her husband run a busy CPA firm while raising their two daughters. Dianne speaks fluent Spanish as she and her husband were given the opportunity to live in Madrid relative to their CPA business. Now, her husband is semi-retired and they have time to travel and spend time with their adult children and four grandchildren. Last year, Dianne and her husband celebrated their 50th Anniversary by sponsoring a team for the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk." Team Gorsey raised over $14,000 and had 50 friends and family complete the 5k walk alongside them.

After devoting her time and energy to her family, Dianne returned to her personal journey to earn her Master's Degree from Phillips Graduate Institute in 2007 and earned her license as a psychotherapist in 2014, adding LMFT behind her name. She began her traineeship at Family Service Agency of Burbank working with children in a school setting, and completed her internship at San Fernando Valley Counseling Center. She continues to represent SFVCC at the Phillips Job Fair, recruiting trainees and interns and teaches Law and Ethics and Child Abuse Reporting to the new classes of up and coming counselors.

In addition to picking up her granddaughters on Wednesdays and attending the many soccer, football, basketball and baseball games, in which all four of her grandchildren participate; Dianne volunteers at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, a food pantry for people in need. She is passionate about the importance of giving back.

Dianne joined San Fernando Valley CAMFT in 2007. She enjoys networking and learning at the monthly meetings. Dianne says, "The meetings fit a lot into a short time!" Her recommendation to all of us is to never stop learning. She finds that being a therapist allows her to meet people and make a difference in their lives. For Dianne, witnessing her client's progress is extremely gratifying. Meeting with Dianne has brought hope and warmth into my life!
