Christopher Cervantes, AMFT

2023 Scholarship Recipient


Chris is a recent AMFT, writer and professional horse trainer, and equestrian coach at Far West Farms in Calabasas, CA. He has worked for multiple FEI and Olympic trainers in the jumper and dressage disciplines.

Chris graduated with his Riding Masters IV and Level II Teaching Certification from Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre. He holds a BA with an Equestrian Emphasis from West Virginia University Parkersburg and completed Ohio State University's Equine Reproduction program with his degree from Meredith Manor. Chris graduated with his MFA in Writing from Lindenwood University and his MA in Clinical Psychology Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist from Pepperdine University. He is currently enrolled in his Sport & Performance Psychology doctorate program at the University of Western States.

Additionally, Chris works for Mustardseed Ranch, a non-profit, Equine Therapy program for teens as an Equine Psychotherapist AMFT. He continues post-grad counseling at the Orange County LGBTQ Center, working with individuals and facilitating process groups as one of the center's therapists. Additional certifications Chris holds include: Certified Trainer with the United States Hunter-Jumper Association and PATH Therapeutic Riding member. Chris served on the Interscholastic Equestrian Association’s Board of Education and the Board of Safe Sport. Chris has publications in magazines, including; Flying Changes, The Plaid Horse, Young Rider, Horse Illustrated, and YourHorseFarm.com. Chris loves surfing, concerts, iced coffee, his horses Roxy and Precedent, and his pet goat Norman.
