Marriage and family therapists learn to provide various theoretical frameworks and modalities to improve relationships. Biofeedback uses learning theory, technological advances, and basic physiologic principles to promote these improvements. Biofeedback basically refers to any process where one learns to alter body, brain, and mind states by receiving direct feedback of the client’s physiology (i.e. heart rate, skin temperature, muscle tension). Neurofeedback, also known as Neurotherapy or EEG Biofeedback, is a form of biofeedback that teaches one to alter brain states by directly learning to alter brain waves seen on an EEG through the use of visual and audio information.

Our annual "State of the Profession" membership meeting is a standalone event this year! Join us, fellow CAMFT chapters and CAMFT Executive Director, Nabil El-Ghoroury, PhD, CAE for an understanding about events, legislation, and internal association processes that are currently impacting CAMFT members. Designed for Mental Health Professionals, this 90-min presentation will discuss general CAMFT issues and the importance of a Professional Will. There will also be updates from BBS, as well as California and Federal legislative updates. Finally, discussion on why it is important to avail yourself of the Legal Consultation service CAMFT provides. There will be ample time for Q&A.

Madeline Taylor—July Membership Meeting Write-Up
I don’t know about you, but I always get stumped by the word, “dialectical.” It’s like a roadblock in my brain causing me to slow down and have to think . . .”What does that mean?” A dictionary definition describes “dialectical” as meaning, “concerned with opposing ideas.” Our July presenter, Patty Gieselman, helped considerably by explaining that in Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy, “dialectical” refers to a synthesis, perhaps a synthesis . . .
