President's Message — Daniel Hermosillo, LMFT

Moving Forward

The start of this year has been unconventional. The fires in Altadena/Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Santa Clarita mountains, and others threatened our safety, homes, communities, and norms. Additionally, the political climate has been tumultuous to say the least.

However, as the SFV-CAMFT Chapter, we have been bestowed with the calling to be of support to our communities that have faced their own challenges, whether they be the fires, political turmoil, and much more. We do so by having our work be a catalyst for the increase of insight, reflection and adaptation core beliefs, and shaping of more functional behaviors in our clients. That is what excites me about the work we, as clinicians, have embarked on.

At this time, I would like to encourage all members and even visitors to reorient themselves to what matters to you! We can do that by reconnecting with what we find joy in, our intimate relationships, what connects us to others outside of our intimate circles, and the things that give us a higher calling. We can also utilize the strengths we have developed through our clinical practice, personal work, and lived experience.

I also want to take this time as an opportunity to bring in the chapter closer together, so that we may be of support to one another as peers, friends, and professionals. As the year continues, we, as a chapter of course, are looking to do more social outings to harbor connectedness and cohesiveness in our efforts to maintain and master our profession.

Lastly, in an interest to invest in the future of our profession, our chapter is looking to engage our local colleges to help people coming into the profession best serve the clientele they so choose to specialize in. Come join the San Fernando Valley CAMFT Chapter in this endeavor.
