Bipolar Disorder: Diagnostic and Clinical Considerations

Assessing and treating bipolar disorder can feel overwhelming for many therapists. When providing case consultation, the following questions typically arise: How do I identify the difference between "normal" mood swings and bipolar disorder? How should I respond when a patient decides not to take their medication? What clinical tools are most effective for treating depressive and manic episodes? And what resources are available to patients in the Los Angeles area?

The goal for this presentation is to help you gain confidence in your ability to work with individuals with a bipolar diagnosis, and know how to locate support and consultation when needed.

Learning Objectives
In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

*Strengthen understanding of diagnostic criteria and common differential diagnoses.*
*Gain insight into the subjective experience of individuals on the bipolar disorder spectrum, and learn how to identify appropriate clinical tools to utilize at varying stages of treatment.*
*Increase awareness of local resources available to patients and families affected by bipolar disorders.*

Course meets the qualifications for 1 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
