"The Psychology of Money and Your Practice"
with Roger Schwarz, LMFT, JD

The psychology of money will be brought to life as it relates to our own personalities and those of our clients. The presentation will begin with legal, financial and business considerations in setting up a private practice. Next, we will be attuned to the powerful force money psychology has on our clients, the therapeutic environment, and us. Case examples will be given where money psychology issues become challenging and how to handle them. They will include fee setting, collection, and dynamics where couples and families are involved.

This course is intended for beginning to advanced therapists.

Learning Objectives
In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify 3 ways powerful psychological influence money and finance has on experiencing and behaving in professional practices and in private life.
  2. Learn 3 fundamentals concerning the financial aspects of creating and managing a private practice including the form of organization, business tax, income tax planning, fee setting, billing, joining insurance panels or not, and more.
  3. Understanding at least 4 interventions to apply psychology of money to integration of self worth with caring for the client.
  4. State 3 therapeutic considerations around interacting with clients about subjects such as fee setting and collections.
  5. Learn 2 basics of how to assess clients' money personalities, apply theoretical approach where money issues are involved, and how all this is compounded where a couple or family or family-owned business is involved.
