Erica Siegal, LCSW

"Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy: What Clinicians Need to Know About

the Emerging Field"

Join Erica for an overview of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy treatment models that are currently available, the clinical trials that are on-going and what the future of the psychedelic industry might look like for mental health clinicians. We will explore the current legal status of psychedelic treatments, discuss available options for professional training for integrating psychedelic therapies into your practice and discuss the harm reduction measures that must be taken to protect our clients in the rapidly emerging psychedelic industry. Erica will also discuss how to talk to your clients about recreational and intentional use that might not occur in a therapeutic context.

Come learn about the current availability and legality of psychedelic treatments and the potential benefits and risks of psychedelics (clinical and non-clinical) that your clients might be exploring. Explore a variety of complementary treatments/ interventions that would be helpful while waiting for access/ legalization (how to expand your knowledge base) and become more confident in talking to your clients about psychedelics and other emerging treatments.

Learning Objectives

In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify 4 different therapeutic psychedelics and what disorders they are treating.
  2. Describe the legality of 4 therapeutic psychedelics and their timeline for potential access/legalization.
  3. Identify at least 3 alternatives to psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy that can induce altered states of consciousness.
  4. List 5 potential risks of engaging in underground psychedelic therapy, for your clients and for you as a clinician.
