This workshop will focus on increasing the awareness of participants regarding perinatal / postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and practical skills to support pregnant and post- partum persons.  During this presentation, maternal suicidal research findings and recommendations for providing care and support to individuals with elevated risks or presentation of mental health concerns will be offered.  Cultural considerations and strength-based interventions will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives

In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify 3 risk factors for perinatal/postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
  2. List 3 screening protocols to assess for perinatal/postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
  3. Develop and state 2 support strategies for pregnant and postpartum clients at-risk of PMDs.

Presenter:

Susan Lowe, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.

Ms Lowe is a speaker, trainer, clinical supervisor, and psycho-therapist.  She received her certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) from the Postpartum Support International (PSI).  Ms Lowe facilitates virtual and in-person training on intersecting topics within the perinatal mental health designed to enhance cross-cultural awareness and the understanding of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.  She is a mentor and community resource for doulas and other Birth-workers in the area of maternal mental health and understanding pregnancy and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs).  She provides therapeutic support to women / birthing people during the reproductive years, including periods of pre-conception, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and postpartum period.

This course is intended for beginning to advanced mental health professionals.

Course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Course evaluations will be sent and CE completion certificates will be awarded to participants that attend the entire presentation and complete the course evaluation within 48 hours of the speaker presentation.

Refund Policy 

Requests for refunds must be in writing and received by SFV-CAMFT before one week prior to the event. A $2 administrative fee will be deducted for cancellation of a paid event, through the cancellation deadline. There will be no changes or cancellations received after one week prior to the event. The President has discretion to issue refunds that do not comply with the policy. To request a refund, email sfv.camft@gmail.com.
