"What's Treatment-Interfering about "Normal" Social Media and Health Practices?"

Note:  In-Person

This workshop will empower clinicians to discern the therapeutic risks of the seemingly “normal” and societally accepted practices of using social media and pursuing health options, via the internet.  These seemingly “normal” practices, address these potentially sensitive topics, explore the possible effect on the client’s treatment goals, and mitigate potential threats to treatment efficacy. Important to the field’s expanding focus on inclusive treatment, this workshop also offers an opportunity to explore clinician biases regarding size diversity that can further impact their ability to effectively assess these areas of concern.

Learning Objectives

In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1.  Name 3 mental health risks of problematic social media use.
  2.  List 3 symptoms that can look like mental health diagnostic criteria but may come directly from nutrition-related practices.
  3.  Describe 3 methods clinicians can use to assess for and identify the impact of social media on the therapeutic process.
