In this workshop, the presenter will explore the essential foundations of trauma-informed care to improve not only client’s mental health, but also clinicians' mental health. We will delve into the critical importance of stabilization tools to successfully prepare clients for the Processing Phase of treatment.


Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these tools contribute to fostering a secure therapeutic environment to promote change. Elevate your practice by integrating regulating/bottom-up interventions to enhance outcomes and provide effective support to individuals navigating the complex terrain of trauma.

Learning Objectives

In successfully completing and attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Participants will identify at least 5 pre-conditions of trauma that intensify client's symptomatology.
  2. Participants will be able to describe at last 5 "antidotes" or interventions to improve psychotherapy outcomes in the work of trauma.
  3.  Participants will acquire at least 5 interventions for successful stabilization phase of trauma-informed care.

Presenter:

Alejandra Trujillo, MA, LMFT is a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Psychologist in Mexico. Alejandra has over 20 years of clinical practice working with infants, children,  adolescents, adults, and families. She developed an evidence-informed school-based, group treatment for children with depressive symptoms “Manual para el Tratamiento Psicológico de Niños con Síntomas Depresivos,” (Manualized CBT/Narrative Therapy treatment for Children with Depressive Symptoms), which she evaluated as part of research at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She has adapted it for use with American populations as her Master’s thesis project at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

She serves as Adjunct Faculty for CSUN since 2012. She is the Trauma-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy–Evidence-Based Practice Specialist "Lead" Clinician at San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., a Department of Mental Health contracted agency providing mental health services for the underserved populations from 0-18 years of age in the state of California.


Alejandra also maintains a private practice in Northridge, California. Alejandra has specialized in the treatment of trauma (PTSD, Complex-PTSD, intergenerational trauma, etc.) throughout the lifespan. She is certified in: Trauma Focus-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), PCIT In-house Trainer, Managing and Adaptive Practices (MAP), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition, she is a certified Instructor and Educator of Infant Massage through the International Association of Infant Massage.

This course is intended for beginning to advanced mental health professionals.

Course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Course evaluations will be sent and CE completion certificates will be awarded to participants that attend the entire presentation and complete the course evaluation within 48 hours of the speaker presentation.

Refund Policy 

Requests for refunds must be in writing and received by SFV-CAMFT before one week prior to the event. A $2 administrative fee will be deducted for cancellation of a paid event, through the cancellation deadline. There will be no changes or cancellations received after one week prior to the event (this includes No shows and arriving late to the presentation on the day of the event). The President has discretion to issue refunds that do not comply with the policy. To request a refund, email sfv.camft@gmail.com.
