"Using IFS & EMDR for
Nervous System Healing"
with Jennifer Adams LMFT
|
|
This presentation explores the integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as complementary, evidence-based approaches for supporting nervous system healing in trauma work. Grounded in a trauma-informed and attachment-focused lens, this training highlights how unresolved experiences are held not only cognitively, but within the body and nervous system.
Participants will learn how IFS helps clients develop a compassionate relationship with protective and wounded parts, creating internal safety and increasing access to Self-energy. Building on this foundation, EMDR is introduced as a powerful modality for reprocessing traumatic memories that are stored in maladaptive neural networks. Together, these approaches support regulation, integration, and adaptive resolution of trauma.
This training emphasizes practical application, including how to assess readiness, sequence interventions, and navigate common clinical challenges such as dissociation, overwhelm, and blocking beliefs. Clinicians will leave with a deeper understanding of how to track the nervous system in session, integrate parts work into EMDR phases, and support clients in moving from survival-based patterns toward greater regulation, resilience, and connection.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Explain 2 ways that trauma impacts the nervous system.
2. Describe 2 ways that IFS and EMDR each support regulation and trauma resolution.
3. Identify and assess for 3 indicators of client readiness for trauma processing.
4. Apply 3 integrated IFS and EMDR interventions to support stabilization, reprocessing, and nervous system regulation in clinical practice.
5. Develop a trauma-informed treatment approach that incorporates both IFS and EMDR to enhance client resilience and healing.
