"Educational Therapy & Executive Functioning: What MFTs Need to Know to Support Neurodiverse Learners"
with Rachel Kapp, M.Ed., BCET
COURSE DESRIPTION
This presentation explores how executive functioning challenges impact neurodiverse learners and how therapists can recognize, understand, and support these struggles. Participants will learn to identify common EF difficulties, interpret learner behaviors through an executive functioning lens, and implement practical systems that promote independence, self-advocacy, and reduced anxiety.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Identify 3 common academic, behavioral, and emotional indicators of executive functioning challenges in neurodiverse learners and distinguish these challenges from issues related to motivation, effort, or ability.
2. Apply 2 educational therapy principles and practical executive functioning supports—including systems for time management, organization, and self-advocacy—to better support neurodiverse learners and their families.
